​ecobee - BeeThere
​The design challenge was to develop a new product for EcoBee with a strong understanding of their company's principles, target consumers, thus, seeking opportunities for growth.
BeeThere is a pair of parent and child's smart night lights - designed to be compatible with the ecoBee3 home thermostat. The parents can be at ease when monitor their children's sleep on their own console, meanwhile, the children's unit is equipped with a wearable mini light which encourages children to overcome their fear of darkness.

​OUR PERSONAS: THE MALBA'S FAMILY
​- A family of 4, soon to be 5, recently moved into a bigger living space.
- 2 older siblings have just started primary school, they are all looking forward to the 5th member.
- The house has 2 floors: living space and 2 kids' bedrooms on the ground floor while parents' room is upstair.
​- The Malbas are concerned that a bigger place calls for far more responsibilities.
​EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN WORRIES!​
​Children are afraid to go to the washroom
at night.
​Children have nightmare and want comfort
Parents want to be informed of their children' conditions when they are sick

​Children tend to be afraid of the dark, a fear that may persist into their adulthood. Many parents resolve to go to their rooms or having them sleep in their parents' room...
OR...simply keep the lights on, which adds more to their energy bills.

​BeeThere HOW IT WORKS
​When parents are awake and children are falling asleep, the light is lit brightly to create a presence in their rooms.
​When both parents and children are asleep, the light is dimmed.
​When the children wake to go to the washroom at night, the parents' console sends a calming glow to their lamp or wearable.
Each child may choose their own light color for distinction and personalization.
